The Knower

ज्ञाता

Who is the knower in every act of knowing?

Core answer

A proposal to examine

The knower is the conscious self that understands and can evidence what has been understood. The body supplies sensory information and means of expression, but it does not evaluate meaning or decide what is true. Recognising the knower restores responsibility for conclusions to the self rather than to the senses or circumstances.

Reflection

In one perception, separate what the senses reported from what the knower concluded.
